Eddie Wade studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He won First Prize and the Verdi/Wagner Prize at the National Mozart Competition in 1996 and was a bursary winner at the inaugural Madeleine Finden Memorial Competition in 1997. After making his Royal Opera, Covent Garden debut in 1996 as the Mandarin Turandot Eddie furthered his training at the National Opera Studio, sponsored by The Royal Opera and the Sybil Tutton Trust.

Eddie has sung with The Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera and Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera. He has worked with many leading conductors, including Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Mark Elder, Esa Pekka Salonen, Sir Antonio Pappano, Maurizio Benini, Mark Wigglesworth, Carlo Rizzi, Philippe Auguin, Andris Nelsons and Jakub Hrůša.

Recent performances include Baron Douphol La Traviata for Nederlandse Reisopera, Julio The Exterminating Angel for The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Donald Billy Budd for Opera North, Douclou Zaza for Opera Holland Park and Don Alfonso Cosi fan tutte for Bury Court Opera.

Other notable roles include Fouquier-Tinville Andrea Chénier, Baron Douphol La Traviata, the Mandarin Turandot and Indian Bartered Bride for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden. Sharpless Madama Butterfly for Den Jyske Opera, Rigoletto Rigoletto and Sharpless Madama Butterfly for Scottish Opera. Prince Arjuna Satyagraha and Mereia/Lepidus Caligula for English National Opera. Speaker The Magic Flute, Conte Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro, Foreman Jenufa, Peter Hansel and Gretel, Marcello La Boheme, Sharpless Madama Butterfly, Baron Douphol La Traviata and Melot Tristan und Isolde for Welsh National Opera. Giorgio Germont La Traviata for Glyndebourne on Tour. Baron Douphol La Traviata for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Glyndebourne on Tour, Sonora La Fanciulla del West for Opera North. Renato Un Ballo in Maschera and Macbath Macbeth for Iford Arts Festival and Eustachio L’Assedio di Calais for English Touring Opera.

Eddie has toured France & Switzerland singing Giorgio Germont La Traviata, Scarpia Tosca and Rigoletto Rigoletto with Diva Opera and he sang the Executioner in the European premiere of James Macmillan’s Inés de Castro for Scottish Opera in Portugal during Porto’s year as European Capital of Culture.

Eddie’s concert performances are many and varied and highlights include: Andrei Shchelkalov Boris Godunov with the Phiharmonia Orchestra at The Royal Festival Hall, Second Apprentice Wozzeck in a US tour with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Kommissarius/Notary Der Rosenkavalier for The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. The Verdi and Brahms’ Requiems, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Handel’s Messiah and Dvorak’s Te Deum. He has sung with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and for Raymond Gubbay Ltd at the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Arts Centre, most recently in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. He has sung Mendelssohn’s Elijah many times, including tours to France and Belgium, Oxford and Wells Cathedral.

Engagements this season and beyond include Prince Arjuna Satyagraha for English National Opera, Baron Douphol La Traviata for Longborough Festival Opera and a return to the Royal Opera, Covent Garden.
