Traviata returns...

It looks as though it’s been a few days since my last blog, or is it weeks? Time is going by so quickly at the moment, or at least it always seems to do so when I’m busy with lots of different projects.

La Traviata is about to return, alongside Manon, to Covent Garden and so I will get to reprise my Baron Douphol for the second time this season; this time around it’s with Angela Gheorghiu as Violetta, returning for the first time in many years to the Richard Eyre production that made her name. I have been very priviliged over the past several years to be involved with this show and to have worked alongside some of the finest sopranos in the world; Anna Netrebko, Reneé Fleming, Anna Maria Martinez, Nora Amsellem and Ermonella Jaho have all recently been ‘my Violetta’ and now I can add Angela Gheorghiu to the list.

London appears to be my second home at the moment and I am spending an awful lot of time getting intimately acquainted with the M5 and M4 motorways as I roar back and forth. It will be all change come the Autumn, however, when my car will have to turn left, not right, at Bristol and head for Cardiff and Welsh National Opera’s production of The Magic Flute. The good news is that I’m currently buying a lovely flat in Cardiff Bay at the moment so that I will have a place to call ‘home’ for the times that I’m in sunny Cardiff!

We have the builders in at home in Somerset at the moment, building an extension, so I try to get myself over to the allotment when the loud banging and drilling sounds start to emerge around mid morning. I’m really enjoying all the sun we’re having at the moment but from a veg growing perspective it’s been a bit difficult having no rain for so long. As I now live more than six miles from my veg plot, I have resorted to driving over to the allotment with two 25 litre jerry cans filled with water twice a day. The veg are rallying nicely but I’m exhausted!!

I have made the decision recently to sell my web design company, which I formed several years ago, and so hopefully that will free up much more time for me to spend with my family, singing and growing my vegetables, plus all the other things I really want to do but never seem to get the time (more details to follow if I manage to do any of them!!)

I am currently writing this blog from a car park, with wi-fi access, on the outskirts of London; oh the joys!! All in all though tonight has been a very good night because I got to chat, via the wonders of Facebook, to one of my neices, Rebecca, from Barnsley, whom I haven’t seen in absolutely ages. It turns out that Rebecca enjoys amateur operatics – watch this space, maybe, for a new star…?

All from me for now…

E x
